We were going for a short hike from Abol Bridge to Abol Pond, which is just short of 2 miles. When we arrived at Abol Pond these luxury toilets jumped out at us.

I’ve heard of an outhouse, but how convenient it is when you don’t have to go to the bathroom in the woods. There is actually a toilet in the woods.

Unfortunately, nobody used the public facility, but rest assured that somebody has before.

A couple years ago, it did have a structure around it. I don’t know where it went and why it hasn’t been replaced yet because the beach is still in pretty good shape.

If you would like to visit the toilet or better yet Abol Pond, it is at the beginning of the southern entrance of Baxter State Park.
